Print Spend Review

Most companies know what they spend on printing.
They do not always know whether they are buying it the right way.

That is what we review.

Look Beyond the Quote

The lowest price on an individual job does not necessarily mean the lowest overall print cost.

Production method, specifications, quantities, finishing, freight, inventory and supplier selection can all affect what an organization ultimately spends.

Lowitz + Sons can review a representative group of your print projects to identify where there may be opportunities to reduce cost, simplify purchasing or use a more appropriate production method.

What We Review

  • Current pricing on representative projects
  • Production methods and equipment being used
  • Paper, materials and project specifications
  • Order quantities and purchasing frequency
  • Finishing, binding and specialty processes
  • Freight, mailing and fulfillment costs
  • Inventory levels and potential obsolescence
  • Supplier mix and vendor consolidation opportunities
  • Turnaround requirements that may be affecting cost

Match the Job to the Right Production Method

One of the most common opportunities is simply producing the job differently.

A short run may make more sense digitally. A larger quantity may be better suited to sheetfed or web offset production. Specialty finishing, unusual formats, mailing requirements or tight schedules can change the equation again.

Because Lowitz + Sons is not limited to a single production platform, we can evaluate different options and determine which approach best fits the quality, quantity, timing, complexity and budget of the project.

Start with a Small Sample

You do not need to turn over your entire print program or provide years of purchasing data.

We can start with a small group of recent or recurring projects. Existing specifications, invoices, samples or previous quotes are usually enough for an initial review.

This gives us something concrete to compare and allows you to see whether there is meaningful value before going any further.

What We Look For

Production Opportunities

Projects that may be better suited to a different press, production process or supplier.

Specification Opportunities

Paper, size, finishing or quantity decisions that may be adding cost without adding meaningful value.

Purchasing Opportunities

Areas where consolidating projects, coordinating purchases or changing the supplier mix may simplify purchasing and improve overall value.

Logistics Opportunities

Freight, mailing, inventory or distribution decisions that may be affecting the total cost of the program.

Not Everything Needs to Change

A useful review should also identify where your current approach is already working well.

If a supplier, specification or production method is appropriate for a project, there is no reason to change it simply for the sake of change.

The objective is to identify the areas where a different approach can provide a meaningful improvement in cost, quality, service or efficiency.

Start with a Few Projects

Send us several representative jobs, recent invoices or specifications. We can review how the work is currently being produced and identify where a comparison may be worthwhile.
